Art is an integrate part of our curriculum as we are firm believers in the great impact creativity has on fine motor skills and abstract thinking which lead to better problem solving skills. We work to unlock every learner’s creativity and imagination. At our preschool we give learners a lot of opportunity to experiment with art materials and creative ideas. They are given time to cut, paste, mould, build, paint, draw and let loose with their imagination! We may ask to send a few recyclable materials (which includes bottles, toilet rolls, plastic bags, cereal boxes etc.) to school from time to time in order to create something new and creative for that art displaying corner at home.
Here we have a lot of fun teaching learners how to bake and make! We teach them how to make and love healthy food such as salads and sandwiches. We also teach them how to bake muffins, cupcakes, cakes and puddings and then they top it off by decorating with icing, sprinkles and sweets!
How can one bake and make healthy things without the right ingredients? We recently started a veggie garden where learners are taught about plants and how they grow. Learners are actively involved in maintaining the garden by watering and getting rid of those unwanted weeds.
Learners are given tuck shop time every Friday. Parents may give up to R10 for a packet of chips, icy or sweetie.
Hard work is rewarded with fun days! We like to dress up, watch a movie, play on water slides or jumping on a castle or two. We also celebrate Valentine’s day, spring day, heritage day and Christmas. Fun days are sometimes used as fundraisers to improve the learning environment or to help someone in need.
Learners do not only learn in classrooms at school. They are taken on outings twice a year. In 2016 we had our very first outing to the airport and Rietvlei farm. In 2017 and 2018 we went to Johannesburg zoo. We also love getting in crazy critters to educate learners on animals by petting, feeding and playing with them. Learners enjoy this immensely!
In 2018 the preschool helped the SPCA and a school for disabled children. We gathered tin food and nappies to donate to those who are less fortunate. In 2019 we raised over R5000 to donate to a literacy program helping underprivileged learners with reading.
